Autrey Mill’s serene setting and emphasis on reconnecting with nature and history to get a break from competitive activities and ever-present technology. We offer summer camp, hiking trips, home-school programs, field trips, preschool activities, programs for all ages, and after-school programs. We also offer birthday parties!
Autrey Mill is a unique setting for home school programs featuring a 46-acre nature preserve with trails, woodlands, wetland, and creek; animal exhibits; historic buildings, indoor and outdoor classrooms, artifacts, and heritage gardens. Our Home School curriculum provides an exciting learning experience developed to really engage students in the study of topics combining environmental studies, nature, history, and science. Home school lessons are based on a nationally recognized curriculum and are correlated with state standards in Life Science, Physical Science, and History.
In the Home School series, students will explore Autrey Mill’s natural environment and history, focusing on a different topic for each 4-hour class. Home School classes are offered on a Thursday, a Wednesday, and Friday each month.
Each class stands on its own, so attend one, all, or several.
The perfect way to introduce your preschooler to natural science and history! Our Preschool Adventure series is based on a nationally recognized curriculum in life and physical sciences. Each adventure is different and has a theme chosen to spark a preschooler’s imagination. Included is a brief nature hike and a hands-on activity or craft. Offered on selected Tuesdays and Fridays for ages 3-6 (Parents/guardians are free but are required to stay for the program. No charge for non-participating siblings.)
We are offering several after school classes:
- Cooking and Crafts for ages 6-11
A creative program that’s a fun way to experience history through simple recipes and heritage crafts enjoyed in the past. Each class will include a cooking activity and a craft.
- Kid Hikes for ages 6-11
- Guided hikes with activities designed to get kids exploring the outdoors and interacting with nature.
- Register Today!
We’ll keep your campers engaged with plenty of activities and learning opportunities, but there is always time to examine what’s under a log, catch a tadpole, or imagine living in the past. Pre-Care and After-Care offered during some camp weeks.
- See our Summer Camp page for descriptions of our various summer programs.
Thank You Sawnee EMC
Autrey Mill is very thankful for the Sawnee EMC Foundation and all the support it has provided throughout the years for our educational museum and programs. With Sawnee EMC’s support, we are able to host the OnCell mobile tour again this year! By using a self-guided audio/visual tour, families can visit the historic buildings, such as the farm museum, the tenant house, and Warsaw Church. In addition, Sawnee EMC’s generosity has allowed for supplies for our heritage tours and programs, maintenance of the heritage building, and support for our beautiful gardens.
