When:

Water shoes, boots, or waders

More information:

  • We will focus on the section of Johns Creek that starts right under the Buice Road bridge and head up stream between the Farmbrook and Doublegate subdivisions
  • Park across the street from the meeting point. We recommend carpooling and or walking if you are close enough!
  • Bring water shoes, a hat, a water bottle(reusable), sunscreen, and bug repellant, as you may need. The Creek banks are high, and we may be unable to walk above the land.
  • Supplies will include water to refill your water bottle, a first aid kit, a cell phone (to take pictures and for 911 calls if needed), trash bags, gloves, and “grabbers.”
  • We’ll introduce ourselves and briefly overview the importance of cleaning our watershed.
  • Then, we’ll team up for safety and split the group into two to clean the smaller Cameron Creek up the road and the Johns Creek.

All homeowners and their neighbors are encouraged to join us or look at streams/tributaries closer to their homes to help. The debris and litter collected will be sorted/bagged/weighed in the Autrey Mill Nature Preserve gravel parking lot, and then the city will properly dispose of the waste.

Last year, on August 19th and September 30th, we had a very successful clean-up of Johns Creek by the Double Gate subdivision and the Medlock Bridge Subdivision.

  • We had a combined 80 volunteers (many from MLB and Doublegate, along with Johns Creek Stormwater Utility Manager Cory Rayburn)
  • A combined 600 lbs of trash was removed (that’s a lot of empty plastic water bottles and old tennis balls)

On Saturday, March 30th, 2024, join Autrey Mill Nature Preserve for the annual Sal’s Creek Clean-up right here at Autrey Mill Nature Preserve.
