Photography Policy

Autrey Mill Nature Preserve Association Inc. is a private, non-profit 501(c)3 organization dedicated to creating a destination and educational resource to inspire exploration, appreciation, and preservation of the natural environment and local history. AMNP Assoc. Inc. manages the 46+ acre nature preserve and associated historical structures in cooperation with the City of Johns Creek.

As stewards of the habitats and historic structures, AMNP Association Inc. has implemented a photography policy to ensure the protection of these treasures, and that the public is able to enjoy them.

Recreational and Permit-Exempt Photography

  • Recreational photography of family and/or friends, flora, and fauna, the exterior of the buildings or structures is permitted without a photography permit or prior consent of AMNP Inc.
  • Press coverage of breaking news does not require a permit but is subject to the imposition of restrictions and conditions necessary to protect preserve resources and public health and safety and to prevent derogation of preserve resources.
  • Recreational photographers may only carry with them one camera (video or still). Multiple lenses, handheld flashes, monopods, tripods, additional lighting, etc. are not allowed under recreational use.
  • Recreational photographers must comply with the directions of AMNP staff, and not obstruct the enjoyment of other visitors.
  • No photography is allowed immediately adjacent to or inside of, the historic buildings or on any deck, porch, or similar structure without expressed written permission from AMNP.
  • Photographers must stay on the trails and designated areas when working in the nature preserve.
  • Autrey Mill Nature Preserve Inc. reserves the right to prohibit photography at its discretion if the staff or agent thereof determines that the historic structures, natural environment, or enjoyment of visitors to the preserve may be damaged or disrupted by the activities of the photographer or subjects.

Commercial Photography

  • Commercial Photographers must possess an AMNP Inc. Photography Permit before commencing photography sessions.
  • AMNP Commercial Photography permit applications are available online at autreymill.org or in the visitor center.
  • All commercial photography sessions must be scheduled with AMNP staff at least 72 hours before the beginning of the session. For a variety of reasons, the desired date and time may not be available.
  • Autrey Mill Nature Preserve Inc. reserves the right to prohibit photography at its discretion if the staff or agent thereof determines that the historic structures, natural environment or enjoyment of visitors to the preserve may be damaged or disrupted by the activities of the photographer or subjects.
  • Commercial photographers must have their AMNP photography permit visible at all times.
  • Processing of the permits may require up to 7 days; permits will not be available for immediate purchase.
  • AMNP photography permits are available for:
    • Day Pass-$25
    • Annual Pass- $100
  • Commercial use of the grounds for photography and other such purposes shall be licensed, limited, and reasonable in scope. For example, a professional photographer can obtain a license from AMNP for reasonable use, but may not use  AMNP as a place of business in lieu of a studio/.
  • No photography is allowed immediately adjacent to or inside of, the historic buildings or on any deck, porch, or similar structure without expressed written permission from AMNP.
