How to make a Butterfly Garden That Feed You

Discover how to design and maintain a garden that supports butterflies and other essential pollinators while helping your vegetables grow! This hands-on workshop will take place in the Butterfly Garden and Heritage Garden at Autrey Mill Nature Preserve, providing a real-world setting for learning and exploration. Garden Guru Frank will introduce the foundational principles of pollinator-friendly gardening, including plant selection, habitat needs, and seasonal planning. Participants will gain practical, easy-to-apply strategies for creating a vibrant, sustainable landscape that supports both ecological health and garden productivity.

Whether you’re starting from scratch or enhancing an existing garden, this program will equip you with the knowledge to cultivate a space where pollinators and plants flourish together.

What to Wear:
Wear comfortable clothing you won’t mind getting dirty. This program will take place outside in the Autrey Mill Nature Preserve Butterfly Garden.

What to Bring:

  • Sun Screen
  • Bug Spray
  • Refillable Water Bottle
  • A knee cushion, if needed
  • A sun hat

More Info:
This is a hands-on, practical workshop, and participants may be asked to bend or kneel while planting. If you have any physical limitations, please let Mr. Frank know at the beginning of the workshop so we can do our best to modify activities and ensure your comfort. Autrey Mill Nature Preserve will provide all necessary gardening tools, but you are welcome to bring your own if you prefer.
