Our spring line-up of Homeschool, Middle Homeschool, Preschool Adventures, Sneak-Peek-Saturday, Time Travelers Club, My Best Friend/ Doll Club, and Cooking and Crafts has been set and is open for registrations! Join us for a season filled with exploration, appreciation, and preservation.

Cooking and Crafts

The Cooking and Crafts program focuses experiencing history through simple recipes and crafts of the past. The themes and activities vary so attend one or all. Topics may include- butter, ice pops, ice cream, mini pies, or hot cakes. Taught by Ms. Alison. Each class stands on its own, so attend one, all, or several.

3/21/2019 Potato Patato- Club participants will learn how to make potato pancakes and learn the
4/18/2019 Eggcellent- Participants will learn a variety of ways to eggcellently cook eggs, as they learn about keeping chickens.
5/9/2019 Ice Scream! We will shake and churn our way through history as we make and learn about the science of ice-cream.

Full Moon Hikes

Do you enjoy listening to the bumps of the night?Join us and learn about the science of sounds at night. Enjoy an hour hike at the scenic Autrey Mill Nature Preserve! Expand your sense of wonder during these night hikes. We will be looping around down to the creek to explore the natural environment here at Autrey Mill. Hikes are open to all ages, but best suited to those who can easily walk a third of a mile.

Home School Adventures

Our Home School curriculum provides an exciting learning experience developed to engage students in the study of topics combining environmental studies, nature, heritage, and science. Home school lessons based on nationally recognized curriculum and correlated with Georgia State standards in Life Science, Physical Science, and History. Stay after on Thursday classes for the Time Travelers Club!

This season’s overarching theme is PRESIDENTS! As we research past presidents, we will discover scientific advancements and learn how Americans lived during these presidents’ tenures. We will go back in time to explore nature and history through interactive games, stories, exploration, and crafts.Each class stands on its own, so attend one, all, or several.

2/8/2019 Presidential Teeth- We will learn about America’s First President and discover some toothy facts.
2/14/2019 Inventive Lincoln- Lincoln was the only president with a Patent! We will learn about how his inventive spirit lead to the Emancipation Proclamation and how it affected the daily life of citizens.
3/7/2019 Teddy Bear President- Teddy Roosevelt’s campaign with moving pictures was ingenious. We will explore how the camera technology developed.
3/15/2019 Gold Fevered Presidency- During the presidency of Andrew Jackson, Georgia began its Gold Rush. Students will learn why gold is valuable and experiment with the conductivity of different metals.
4/11/2019 GA Native President- GA Native President- President Carter was a native to Plains GA and in a family of peanut farmers. Students will discover the tools that Farmers used and the history of Peanut Farming in the south.
5/10/2019 FDR’s Gardens and Roads- Student will learn how President Franklin Roosevelt’s policies with public works grew our roads and public lands. .
5/16/2019 American Presidents- Students will explore American History through the scientific advancement that happened during each president’s tenure.

Middle Home School Adventures

This advanced Home School Program is designed to inspire exploration, appreciation and preservation of local history and the natural environment. Each class stands on its own, so attend one, all, or several

2/20/2019 Trail of Tears- Students will discover the events that lead to the Trail of Tears, while also learning about the sense of sight.
3/20/2019 Pony Express- Students will learn about the Pony Express, horse science, and experiment with stop action photography.
4/24/2019 Lewis and Clark- We will be inspired by the explorations of Lewis and Clark as we start our own Phenology Program.

My Best Friend Club/ Doll Club

Bring a doll to the heritage village to join in on a variety of activities like making dollhouses, doll accessories, a doll journal, dressing up in period costumes, and tea parties. Games, hikes, explorations of our historic buildings, and other fun activities with a historical focus shared with a special friend. Held on the last Friday of the month. Each class stands on its own, so attend one, all, or several.

2/22/2019 Shadow Puppets and Dolls- Doll lovers will construct their own shadow puppets and explore historic puppets.
3/29/2019 Old Fashion Games- Participants will experience the past through games and activities with their dolls
4/26/2019 Doll Accessories- We will make aprons and necklaces for dolls and ourselves.
5/17/2019 Fancy Tea Party- Bring your doll and join in a tea party that includes decorating cookies!

Preschool Adventures

Our Preschool Adventure series based on a nationally recognized curriculum in life and physical sciences. Each adventure is different and has a theme chosen to spark a preschooler’s imagination. Included is a brief nature hike and a hands-on activity or craft. Class size is limited.

This season’s overarching theme is Growing Up Wild About Autrey Mill! Join us as we bring the past alive through sensory explorations.

2/1/2019 First Impressions- Children will combine movement and math to show how they think and feel about history.
2/5/2019 Lunch for a Bear- Children identify the kinds of foods that black bears eat by creating a plate of “bear food.”
2/26/2019 Wiggling Worms- Children learn about and observe earthworms (gummy worms provided)!
3/1/2019 Grow as we Go- Children explore the life cycles on the farm and understand that living things grow and change.
3/5/2019  Spider Web Wonders- Children learn about spiders and spider webs.
3/26/2019 Bird Beak Buffet- children learn about the special functions of bird beaks.
4/16/2019 Owl Pellets- Children dissect an owl pellet and learn what owls eat.
4/26/2019 Who lives in a Teepee?- Children learn about teepees and some of the people that call them home.
5/3/2019 American Symbols-Children explore how wild animals are used as symbols of a variety of purposes.

  • Ages 3-6 (A parent or guardian must accompany their child)

Sneak-A-Peek Saturday

On select first and third Saturdays you can take a quick peek at our building collections and hear about our preservation and research efforts. No registration required.

Time Travelers Club

This club will transport explorers to various periods in history! Participants will discover these eras through engaging activities, games, and crafts from the past. Held on a Thursday after Homeschool. Each class stands on its own, so attend one, all, or several.
