Johns Creek Clean up and Crawl! Join us for a City of Johns Creek initiative as we clean up our City’s namesake- Johns Creek. Homeowners along the creek are encouraged to venture into their backyards to help with the project. Debris and litter collected may be brought to Autrey Mill Nature Preserve where we will properly dispose of the waste.
Join us at Autrey Mill and follow us down to the Old Alabama Johns Creek overpass where we will dip our toes, survey for fish, and gather litter.
2019’s Successful Creek Crawl cumulated in over 150lbs of debris being collected out of Johns Creek by residents and volunteers!
Bacterial Monitoring Workshop
Saturday, July 18th, 2020 from 9 am – 1 pm ** Please call to register 678.366.3511**
Join us for a hands-on training workshop on stream water sampling and bacterial testing techniques. The Bacterial Monitoring Workshop will teach volunteers how to monitor Escherichia coli levels in their adopted waterway. E. coli is an indicator organism that is often used to assess water quality. This workshop will focus on the proper collection of a water sample; transfer of sample onto plates that will be incubated and proper interpretation of results.
These workshops are open to participants 11 years old and up. However, participants under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult registrant.
Costs for this event is covered by the City of Johns Creek Environmental Initiative. The $5 fee you paid to register served to hold your spot in the class. Autrey Mill is happy to refund that deposit.
-In the event of rain, all outdoor activities can be conducted inside or under a pavilion cover.
Chemical Monitoring Workshop
Autrey Mill would like to invite you to a Chemical Monitoring Workshop a hands-on training on stream sampling and monitoring. Participants will learn about chemical sampling techniques, while also learning and sharing their views on watershed issues. After the training, you will be certified by the Georgia Adopt-a-Stream program for chemical monitoring.
These workshops are hosted by Autrey Mill Nature Preserve and are supported in part by the Fulton County Department of Public Works (DPW). Staff from the Public Education and Outreach (PEO) team of the DPW assists with the content and instruction of workshops, and supplies materials required for sampling protocols.
